How does an interlock kit work?  

A properly installed interlock kit keeps you safe by mechanically locking out the generator when the main breaker to the home is in the on position. To turn the generator breaker on, you need to shut the main breaker off and slide the device which allows you to flip the generator breaker to the on position. The device will keep you from having both breakers on at the same time.

Why are inlet boxes important?

The inlet box, in conjunction with the interlock kit complete the generator connection.

The inlet box uses the correct cord for your generator to make the correction.

These cords are typically 30 amps or 50 amps. One end is the male twist lock end that connects into the generator. The other end is the female end that goes in the inlet box. 

This is important for safety. Some DIY connection will have two male ends on a cord to pug into an existing outlet in the home. If you have that cord connected to a running generator, the other end will be energized and you could be injured or worse.

The interlock kits are designed for the brand of breaker panel you have in the home. We will match the part for your specific breaker panel and configuration.

The inlet box will need to match the generator you have or plan to purchase.
